I know this isnt a huge deal, but after they get rid of the cat names, what will they make them? I think they should name them after planets, to go with the space theme? What do you think?

This is a fun thread :D

I saw someone post a thread like this earlier, and mentioned planets, which would be sweet. Minor correction, but Apple doesn't have to give up the cat names after that, they could go to 10.10, 10.11, etc. But when they do move on, it will be OS 11 or XI, whichever they feel is better, not OS X 11

But what happens around the end of the century when they transition to version thirty?

this made me laugh too :p
someone doesn't know roman numbers.
This has nothing to do with Roman numerals. The operating system commonly called MacOS 9 is actually the ninth version of the operating system named MacOS. Except for the QuickTime frameworks, the Carbon frameworks, and the Classic environment, MacOS X had almost nothing to do with MacOS. It is the current name of the OS formerly known as OpenSTEP and NeXTstep before that.

MacOS X began its new life as MacOS X 10.0. However, it was not the tenth version of anything. Each MacOS X point release has been a major evolutionary step that would have merited a new whole version number in other versioning schemes. For example, MacOS X 10.5 brought certified UNIX 03 to the Mac platform. MacOS X 10.7 will bring many UI elements from sibling iOS. Apple has the option and the right to name its OS anything that it wants. When it chooses to give its OS a new whole version number, it will be perfectly within its rights to call the OS MacOS X 11.0. I'd bet dollars to donuts that we will never see MacOS XI.

This post was necessary

After the last release of OSX, we will see the introduction of iOS for Mac. The sneak peek of Lion has indicated that this is the future they are heading toward.

I don't think they'll run out of kitty names anytime soon, do you think?

And, unfortunately, the way that they were showing the desktop, it looks a hell of a lot like the old, old Windows desktop.

I'm betting on iOS Mac followed by iOS Mac 2, unless they go the iLife route and call it iOS Mac '15, iOS Mac '18, etc.

iOS Me, anyone?

To stay on topic, I think it'd be interesting if they went with Canines after OSX is done? Wolves and foxes and stuff.. That'd be cool.. Although, they're not as big as cats.. At least, as far as I know haha
