os 5. podcast question

Hi, Do you have to download a podcast on the phone for it to be natively on the watch? or if you subscribe to a podcast does this happen automatically.

If yes is there a way to have podcasts "autodownload" on the phone.

I never used the native podcast app on my phone as I used overcast.

So I changed the settings in the Apple Watch app from "Listen Now" to Custom. With Custom, I was able to choose which podcasts I want on my phone exactly. So I chose two and they transfered to the watch and played without phone on. Supposedly, from the ones i chose, it will always update when news podcasts are released.

The app should also sync from the Listen Now section of the podcasts app itself, but that did not work for me.
