OS update and I can't log in

I just downloaded the latest OS update and I can't log in. I suspect that it is because I have my user folders on a hard drive and the OS on a SSD. I do have a back up Boot SSD and I can recover just fine if I boot on that. Any ideas as to how to proceed?
 
Hello,

I would create a new user on the SSD, and from there I would reset the Home folder location of your old user.
