OS X 10.4.2 seems slower than other versions in hard drive access on my dual 0.8 GHz PowerMac G4. It uses four hard drives, two from an ATA 100 card. They system drive is Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and two drives are Mac OS Extended.
Basically it takes longer to wake up a sleeping hard drive, and .2 puts the hard drives to sleep more often than past updates did. It is a little annoying because with four hard drives I hit these snags more often than most users.
Still, the Halo demo runs very well on my computer now. I do not think that it would be quite as fast on OS X 10.2
