I've got my Leopard disk backed up as a partition on my external, but it comes up in finder every time its mounted. Is there a file I can edit to disable this on the HDD? If not, in the OS itself?

You can disable the display of icons for external disks by unchecking the box in the Finder Preferences general tab that is labeled "External Disks".

Finder-->Finder Preferences-->General-->External Disks

This is an all or one thing- either no external disks will be displayed or all of them will be.

Edit: Of course you can also just leave the external turned off if all you have is the backup on it...
