OS X 10.8.2 DVD Player Crashes Instantly

Hi All
I just wanted to draw the board's attention to the intermitent bug in 10.8.2 and see if anybody has worked out a workaround? And to see how many people are experiencing the bug.

Basically, I insert a DVD into the DVD player on my Retina MacBook Pro and DVD Player automatically opens. It then crashes instantly and shows the bug report it will send to Apple.

Any ideas? Are you seeing this? I had no trouble when I was on 10.8.1, and many others seem to be having similar problems:

Same thing happens to me.

Both DVD player crash instantly as well as Blu-ray player.

Seems to me to be intermittent - some DVD's it doesn't, some it does. What drive are you using for Blu-Ray?

Fix

I read in another forum that you need to replace the new version of DVDplayback.framework in System->Library->Frameworks with the previous version. I restored mine from my Time Machine backup and it now works fine.

Yeah, I thought I saw something about that somewhere. I wonder what they did that's so bad! I'll wait for an OS update I think - it's a relatively new computer and I didn't get around to copying my stuff across or setting up backups.

Same here, depends on the DVD Im trying to run but it's working nine times out of ten.

An external Asus sbc-06d1s-u is the blu-ray drive I have. I'm not trying to look at blu-rays though, just dvd's for work.

I also have an LG external burner and it crashes with that as well.

I can play them fine if I drag the VOB onto VLC but it would be awfully nice to just have the DVD player work.

Anyone know of any other free players to try? (Although I suspect it is a bug in 10.8.2 since two players I have tried crash)

I am experiencing this bug too. I insert the DVD, the DVD Player starts and crashes instantly. Using a Mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro in OS 10.8.2.

Yes, confirmed. It has been fixed with the supplemental update.
