Hi, its been a long time since I've posted here, have run into a real pull my hair out problem.
First off the basics - MBP mid 2012 running High Sierra - I've got a bunch of niggling little problems, but I went out to download a new program and was told that I had to have 10.15 to do it.
Seeing the writing on the wall I decided to take the plunge. After reading about Catalina I wanted to jump to 14 get things ironed out and then update to 15. I'm old school, no flames, I spent 20 years in the PC world, discovered OS X and said F*** Windows! I've never used Migrate or TM to migrate/move to a new OS, I just copy and restore/paste files. Please don't give that as an answer.
Now onto steps and problem:
1. Using Carbon Copy Cloner backed up my drive (500mg SSs)
2. Down loaded Mojave
3. Put it on a self boot drive
4. boot to the drive and erased my hard drive
5. install Mojave
6. install all updates so now at 10.14.7
7. following online directions from several sources I copied my Mail directory from users/Library/Mail to same under Mojave.
8. ditto - Copied com.apple.mail.plist from users/Library/Preferences to same
9. ditto - copied com.apple.mail, com.apple.MailCacheDelete and com.apple.MailServerAgents from users/Library/Containers
10. ditto - copied keychain from users/Library/keychain to same
When Mail folder from users/Library is being copied it shows 120,000 items and takes 10 minutes to copy. However, when I open Mail - its completely blank, and asking me to create a new account. WTF??
Also when I copy my Mail into the existing Mail folder mine is V5, after it opens blank that folder has been renamed V6.
Troubleshooting:
I also backed up my High Sierra build/disk/hard drive with Time Machine - but when I try to use it in Mojave not only does the 'restore' and up and down buttons' stay grayed out, I never get any of my backups to turn red (read about it online)
I tried to 'merge' the Mail folders HS and Mojave, Preferences and Containers - no joy.
Tried to reboot after install of Mail - no joy
Exported a few inboxes from HS and imported them to Mojave, and that does work - did I mention I have 120,000 emails? Also I don't want everything under 'import' I want my mail to look exactly like it did on HS
You can't do a mailbox rebuild if you don't have a mail box
You can't do a refresh if there isn't anything to refresh
When I moved from El Cap I did this vary thing, and I remember for a bit Mail wasn't working then someone said, "did you try X?" Don't remember what that was.
Please help!
Thanks!!
