OS X app that will send text messages?

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to send text messages from my computer. I don't have good cellular reception in my room, so I need an alternative. Any free app will do, but I'd prefer one that links to my address book.

There is a widget called emitSMS

BluePhoneElite2 sends and receives messages through your Mac via Bluetooth.

I know you mentioned weak signal, but if you found a relatively strong point in your room with signal, then least you can send and receive to your own phone.

This looks like it connects through a cell phone to send the message...The reason I need a separate app is because I get poor reception and need something other than my cell phone to send text messages. I've used Gmail a few times, but I want to try something else...

Not sure if this is of any help, but you can email an SMS to most phone numbers. Not as "clean" as an SMS, but it requires no additional application. Perhaps worth a shot.
