hey guys whenever i download something, like mozilla, the dmg file opens, i drag the application into my applicaiton folder and open the browser, but on the desktop, theres a file on there and i want to remove it. if i do that then i have to go back to the screen with the icon and the arrow pointing to the application folder. Is this supposed to happen or how do i fix it?

i says the application is running, so when i exited out of browser to close it i have to go back the the install window again

So you download the DMG file,
open it --> a window opens with the software you want to use,
you drag that software into your Applications folder,
wait for the copying process to finish,
eject the DMG file via clicking the EJECT icon in the Finder Sidebar or going to the Desktop and dragging the mounted image to your Trash or pressing CMD+E.

Then you start the application itself that is residing in the Applications folder.

Is that correct?

Ok. you need to drag the application file from the disk image to your applications folder first.
Then make sure the app isn't running then eject it :

Are you opening the application from your Applications Folder or the .dmg?

After you drag the icon into the Applications folder, just close out that Finder window, drag the mounted disk icon to the trash to unmount it and you can then delete the .dmg from your downloads folder too.
