When I bought the wife her 27" iMac it was when Lion first came out. While the wife and I have downloaded apps to the iPad's and iPhone's that were free, we've never downloaded anything that cost money.

If I pay for and download Mountain Lion (or Maverick) is there an option to not immediately install it? Is the download stored in the Downloads folder as a DMG that I can execute later?

Sorry for the newbie question, but there you have it.

The installer starts downloading immediately but its saved in your application folder so you can defer the upgrade.
