Hi all,

I have a MBP/15/2.33 running OS X 10.4.8 (haven't installed the recent updates as yet, though). On several occassions, when switching between the root user and my regular user the system would do half the switch and would then 'freeze' showing just the mouse pointer (responsive) and desktop background.

Has anyone else encountered this type of problem before?

Thanks, and a happy new year to you all

Am.

On a side note -- how can I add my new user to sudoers?

I would recommend doing one of two things:

(1) Make this user an admin if they need admin privileges

(2) For almost anything that you should need, I think it's much safer / better to use login at the terminal prompt to login as an admin user in the shell, and then do sudo's as that user. There should be very few circumstances where this is insufficient.

But if you really need a non-admin user who is allowed to sudo, then you can see this tutorial on using visudo to change /etc/sudoers to allow for this.
