So I decided to put my SL install on a 8GB SD card since I am going to move to an optibay.

I have a problem though. After I format the SD card in Journaled when i try to Restore the install image to the SD I get the message "not enough space" the SD card is 8GB and says I have 7.62GB free and the image says its 7.55GB.

Any ideas? All the guides I have say that 8GB should be enough.

You completely misinterpreted the error message. The OS recognized that your SD card does not have enough space and did not restore your backup to it.

I actually was able to do this just yesterday. I had an 8GB Sandisk SD card and I created a restore from the DVD without problem. I used the disk that came from my MBP2010. It was 10.6.3 if I remember correctly.

No, thats exactly what I said, you completely misread what I wrote. I said the SD card is 7.62 free, and the image is 7.55. that .7 left over.

You need to go by it's uncompressed size then. Mount the DMG (double-click it) then Get Info on the resulting volume. It's like more than 7.62GB.

Hm, I'm a bit disappointed that it gets read as under 8GB. Is there a way for me to rip out features I dont need like printers or fonts or rosetta?

I have managed to restore my SL disk on a number of 8GB cards and usb drives without a problem. Try formatting the card without journalling and see if that saves a few MB.
