OS X Install DVD locked to serial number?

Does the installation DVD that comes with a Macbook ONLY work for that Macbook? I can't find the DVD that came with my Macbook Pro. I have a friend who lives nearby with a Macbook White Unibody. Can I use his DVD?

I know I can use an USB stick, but I dont have one that works at the moment.

They are locked to the model number. Example Macbook7,1 is a model number. There are ways to remove this limitation, but I am not going to discuss how.

A new copy of SL costs $29 if you lost yours.

You can just call Apple and order a replacement disk, somewhere around $16 usually.

Yeah, they're usually tied to models... his MB disk won't work on your MBP.
