With the name changes of Apple's notebook lines (MacBook & MacBook Pro) due to the intel transition. I feel like Apple might change their name scheme from the "big-cat" names to something different when Leopard is released. What do you guys think?

Doubt it. Mac OS X seems to be a family of cat names. Besides Apple would not change the name midstream.

Now Mac OS 11, that is another story.

I don't think they will. Obviously, for OS XI they might, but big-cats is the naming theme. But who knows?

EDIT: I never really liked sushi Just kidding.

I see no reason for a name change, unless of course Apple were to start selling OS X for beige boxes.

I know that they probably won't but if they did I would imagine they would make it "more marketable".

I'd say it depends on how truly new and revolutionary it is. If it's only a modest update, then stick with Leopard. But if it's something really new and blows the sox off of Vista, then, I wouldn't mind a new naming scheme.

OS X has already blown the socks of Vista :D

I love the big cats theme!! And since the tiger is my favorite animal - I personaly enjoy using OS X Tiger very much!!!! :D

I can't help thinking that OS X Leopard will be a set back compared to Tiger... ;)

Nope. It will be known as Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard," in similar convention to all previous Mac OS X releases going back to Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar."

You are correct.

Also, a little known fact: The OS X public beta was called 'Puddy Cat'. ;)

I very much doubt they'll change the naming system. The name of the OS is unrelated to the names of their hardware to I can't see this as a reason to change it.

No. I do not believe the name will be changed.

i see. my cat is named Turkey (don't ask why) and he is a rather fast runner. he's also very large. OS X 10.6 Turkey. Gotta say, it's got a nice ring to it:D
