OS X Mail problems

I have .mac, and set up my mail to connected with the .mac account. But when i try to send mail i can't. But i'm able to received mail...I tryed everything... any suggestions..... I brought it to the apple store and they brought it in the back, and fixed it, but now it won't work, any thoughts....

maybe your ISP will only allow SMTP mail to be sent using their server.

can't be because my brother uses an Ibook and his mail works......

Do you have SMTP authentication enabled on your .Mac account, with the correct username and password?
