I was unable to burn CD's using itunes. I deleted the app along with quicktime. I re-downloaded the latest versions of each but I cannot get them to install. I double click on the .dmg files and nothing happens. I also cannot access software update or disk utility. What is going on?

what were you doing before this started to happen? and do you have the safari beta installed

I just purchased a song on the itunes music store and wanted to burn it to an audio cd. I don't use safari at all, so I haven't downloaded the beta version.

did you empty the trash after you dragged the applications there, if that is how you deleted them and you did not empty the trash it may think that they are still installed. also you can get to disk utility with the disks that came with your computer or OS update.

That's all that I've found that does not run. I'm not planning on opening 100 or so applications to see if they all run at the moment.

I deleted quicktime since itunes uses quicktime. I was going for a complete reinstall similar to what you do on a pc.

Trash has been emptied. I think the main problem is disk utility won't open, so i am unable to mount the itunes and quicktime disk images to install them. I was able to open disk utility on by restore DVD, but I dont see how that is going to help me install itunes or fix disk utility on my hard drive.

edit: disk utility, installer, software update are not opening.

Yep, I am unable to install ANYTHING right now. Disk Utility is used to mount disk images right? Is it possible to repair disk utility?
