Hi everyone
I have a old 2006-Mac Pro as "headless" fileserver. Mostly I can do things I need trough SSH, but sometimes I need to login to the Mac via VNC, aka os x screen sharing. The problem is, that connecting from windows-based VNC-clients is not working too well.
I have tested all major vnc-clients for windows (tightvnc, realvnc, tigervnc etc), but its always the same: connection via hostname works ok, but after entering my vnc-password, about 2/3 of connection attempts fails, the mac doesn't simply reply anything and vnc-client crashes or I just get a black screen. 1/3 of attempts works normally, bringing me the normal user login screen.
The overall connection quality is also very low, and can sometimes end without warning. All the computers are on my lan and connected with gigabit ethernet cables, and connections with same clients to windows/linux hosts works ok. Does anybody have information, if the OS X screen sharing is somehow different from VNC-standard? I remember using it with some older OS version (maybe 10.6) and it worked fine with standard vnc-clients.
To reduce noise and heat output of my server I have removed the old GPU it had because I rarely need to connect it to a display. Could this be source of my VNC problems? Or could they have something to do with Yosemite not being officially compatible with Mac Pro 1.1?
If you have ideas, please share, thanks
