We have a client using a Mac OS-X server. It is set to allow SMTP relaying from the local network. The clients are running Outlook Express on Macs, with the OS-X server set as the SMTP server.
It works fine for a day or two, but then it will stop sending. The logs show the mail being accepted, but then no attempt is made to resend it. Restarting the mail service will cause all the queued mail to be sent, and restore normal service for another few days.
I can find no clue in the logs as to why it stops sending the mail. It doesn't even begin the normal process of doing a DNS lookup for the domain.
There's disk space a-plenty (~65Gb free).
It's using the Apple SMTP server rather than sendmail.
I've tried setting it to forward all mail through the ISPs SMTP server, but the same problem occurs.
I'd welcome any ideas on where to go with this. This is actually the first time I've done serious work with a Mac, so I've been on a steep learning curve
