os x tiger - finder display bug, aaaargh

out of the blue, finder started showing up like this:

also, transmission doesnt seem to be working (wont download torrents)

what can i do? i've tried rebooting, relaunching finder and updating software...nothing

Umm ok, I think your "bug" is that little button on the top right hand corner of the documents window?
