OS x update stuck during installation

Hi, my friend did an os x update on its macbook air 2013, the download went fine but the installation after the restart is now stuck at about 90% and its been stuck for almost 3 hours now. Not sure if it is safe to just turn off the computer using the power button... What should I do?

Thanks for the reply, thats what I did and it worked... Just went back on the app store and installed the update successfully this time
