My ibook G4 will be the first computer i've i ever had that i will upgrade my OS on, i was wondering what will happen when i stick in that leopard install disc, will it wipe my entire hard drive and install from the ground up or does it do something different? can someone explain OS X upgrades to a mac newbie?

No, it will not wipe your hard drive, unless you want it to do that.
