So I have these two machines hooked up through my network.

The PC has no trouble ever seeing the Mac

but the Mac is only able to see the PC when the workgroup name(network name) in windows xp is at it's default, mshome

The problem is the same even when i change the workgroup name in osx under the wins tab in the network settings

any tips to fix this?

Well the easiest fix is to use "Connect to server" and type in the IP of your XP machine, it should be able to browse it that way.

To get it to show up in the network is a whole different deal. I use my Mac's on a network with Server 2003 so a workgroup setup may not be the same I can't really say. But if you hit up google what you are trying to do is to BIND your OS X machine to the Windows network. What you find may or may not apply to workgroups.

Thanks for the reply.

Where is the "connect to server" option?

I find this problem to be very interesting because OS X has no problems seeing PCs in a network named MSHOME, its when you change that the problem arises.

I'v changed the name from MSHOME for security reasons.

I'll also look into server 2003

It's in to Go menu of the main desktop.

But you can just hit <Apple Key> & K to access it.

Then type in you IP preceded by either smb:// or cifs:// I can't remember which it is right at the moment.
