Hi all....

sorry but I dont have the strength - as I lay in bed with the flu - to read all the posts about this so here is the question.

I have the 3GS version 3.1.2 (7D11) - jailbroken and unlocked using Blackrain - baseband 05.11.07
Bought this in US but now in Italy.

I want to upgrade to OS4 and unlock again so I can use my local SIM card.

Can I do this, and where the most used - successfull- guide?

Does your 3GS have the old bootrom (untethered JB) or is it a new bootrom (tethered JB, have to use blackra1n to restart the phone)?

If its untethered, you can use pwnagetool to make a custom firmware and update. Go and look for the tutorial at iclarified.com.

If its a tethered JB, then its more complicated. ih8sn0w has released a tutorial for a tethered 4.0 JB, but it is not for average users. If you are still interested, the head over to ih8sn0w forums, and search for the tutorial (sorry, I dont have a direct link).

I think you have to cerate a custom OS4 ISPW using pwnage tool.
I would say google is your friend.

Thelatinist has a thread on here that addresses this very thing. Waded through it yesterday. There's a very handy flow chart in the first post that should help. Essentially, download pwnage tool (mac only) find a restore IPSW OF 4.0 and go to you tube and watch all the pertinent videos. Just remember to select activate this phone in pwnage tool. After the FW is built open iTunes hit option+restore browse for the custom IPSW and let her rip. After that unlock with ultrasn0w.

You can restore to custom 4.0 ipsw created with pwnage tool.
