I'm running MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo that has never been updated since OSX 10.4, so decided to update it completely. I used Software Update to bring everything currrent at once, but now I cannot open Safari;Mail;Help,iTunes;Software Update;installer; and others.

Is there such a thing as a "restore point" on Mac's like there is on Windows operating systems? Can I UnInstall the Updates?

I've run Disk Utility several times from the install disk, used Pacifist to install Fonts and the Essentials pkg, checked internet connections and .plists along with caches. Removed Speed Download;Clamavx; checked for other third party add-ons, and examined the Console to see that the programs have no image and have simply crashed.(By that I mean, when they are selected their icon bounces once or twice on the dock, and that's it.

I recently Firewired it to our iMac G5 in an attempt to correct a pile of Kernel errors that occured when Pacifist was interupted. I ended up reinstalling the OS, and now am reluctant to update this one too.

It SEEMS like there is a logical, simple, common, missing component here that I am Missing. ( admittedly, I am not that familiar with troubleshooting Mac.)

Any suggestions would be VERY helpful. Both of these computers belong to my wife, so you know how hard the bed in my doghouse presently is!
