on a macbook pro running 10.5.8: when i try to define a native vpn connection in network preferences, there is no 'Cisco IPSec' to choose from the VPN Types.

Never seen this before, any ideas?

Pretty sure that's a type of VPN connection that was first made available in Snow Leopard. To use a Cicso VPN in Leopard, you must use Cicso's client.

Cisco VPN support was indeed a new feature in 10.6.x Snow Leopard.
