OSX Crashed, how do i safe documents on USB in terminal

Hello,

I would like to safe some documents on an USB stick from a crashed iBook
I can load in single user mode, verbose mode does not wirk (cmd+v)

How do i get the documents on my usb stick?

You can boot up in OS X?

You need to learn how to use the UNIX command "ls", "cd", and "cp". That's how you copy them in single user mode.
