Hi everyone,

I am not able to install OSX on my Power Mac G4 (dual 450 - AGP Graphics). I have tried to install 10.2, as well as 10.3, and I get the grey apple to appear for abour three minutes before it turns into a grey circle with a slash (kind of like a no smoking sign).

Apple tech help was mystified. They sent me a new installation CD packet, which did not change the situation. I installed Power Mac G4 Firmware Update 4.2.8, as they recommended, but it was no help (although I now suspect that since I tried to install OSX before having updated my firmware, I might have screwed something up).

I am running 9.1 currently, but I need to update to join my household network.

What should I do?

Do I need to bring this machine in to the shop?

Will installing a brand new hard drive fix my situation?

Thank you in advance,

Ian
