On my previous Mac (running Mojave), if I double-clicked on an image in Messages, the image would open in Preview. However, on my new Mac, again running Mojave (a clean installation), if I double-click nothing happens. To open the images in Preview I have to right-click>Services>Open and then click "Run Service" in the dialogue box that appears.

Anyone know how I get this back to working as it was on my old Mac?

Try to customize the Messages app: https://www.imore.com/how-adjust-settings-messages-mac
