OSX Photos App

In my MBP's Photo App the SHOW SIDEBAR in View is greyed out and will not show, Ive tried everything

I was wondering why I couldn't get the sidebar to show.
I had been editing a photo, and you have to click the "done" button first to "get out of" editing mode...

where's the DONE button please only I can't remember doing any editing.
