Like the title are there 2 different versions of bluetooth on these os? I can pair my bluetooth gps with my iMac with no problems but my iPad 4th gen will not even recognize it.

BT is BT. Different devices have different profiles enabled so that is your limiting restriction.

should be able to, what are you trying to link it for, audio for music I assume? I can do it with my iPad in my father's Mercedes

hmm...but what would be the reason for a GPS connection on an iMac?
Laptop in passenger seat for macbook.

IMac just uses similar hardware and/or is more programmable seeing as how it is a desktop.

Originally wanted to hookup the GPS to my iPad just for grins. Wouldn't work so tried the BT on the iMac to insure the BT wasn't broke on the GPS.

You can only use the iPhones BT to tether the internet connection to a Mac. You can't do anything else such as sending a file to the Mac or from the Mac to a phone.

The only thing you can do by connecting a GPS unit to the phone via BT is to make handsfree calls.
