With that much light do I want Plasma, LCD, or LED?

While at Costco, I saw this Samsung.

55” 1080p 120Hz
LED Edge Lit LCD HDTV
Resolution: 1920x1080
Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 4,000,000:1
$1999.99

The picture looked fantastic.

Do I really need to spend $2000?
I was hoping to be closer to $1200 - 1500.

Any others you recommend?
Important features?
Brands to avoid?

With that much light, you should really look at matte screen. If you get glossy, it will be unwatchable at day time. I (well, my dad) used to have a glossy 50" Pioneer in living room which was quite similar to yours. The issue was that evening sun often came through the windows and reflected on the screen, making it unwatchable. Of course, sun isn't that big problem for us since most of the time we only see sun for few hours a day but at summer, it was annoying.

I can't recommend any specific model but I have Sony which is very antiglare and good. One thing you have to remember is that glossy often looks better and brighter in store.

I would go and take another look and concentrate on glossy and matte. Some are less glossy than others, I've noticed that Samsungs are very glossy.

Just my thoughts
