My phone is not jailbroken but my "other" section on my phone seems to be getting higher and higher. What is saved as other on the phone?

It could be firmware infomation, or saved infomation from apps?
Just a guess

While I don't know the answer to your question, I recall reading that items deleted in the mail app are stored in "other". Try going into the mail app and clearing out your trash. May help a bit.

I have had my other fluctuate from as much as 1 GB to as little as 200MB - I usually just perform a hard reboot and the funkiness cleans itself up.

It seems when you download Apps onto an iPhone, the 'Other' section gets bigger. My total avail. space used to be 4.01 GB and then it went down to 3.93 GB, when I had only downloaded Apps. (And the App part is shown in green.)

Your iPhone must have info about each App... I did a restore and it seemed to clean up a bit though.

Mine is at 1.3 GB so I dunno what's going on.

If you rent a movie and it expires, it goes from 'videos' to 'other'.

Restarting the phone purges it of this unwanted data.
