Wanting to get an Otterbox Defender case for my iPhone 6S. I've read reviews and there are some reports the Defender damaging around the home button. Has anyone using the Defender notice this?

I have the defender for the 6Splus and my wife has the defender for her 6 and both of us hasn't seen any damages around the home button. And she's a lot tougher with her phone too.

I don't see how the case could damage the area around the home button. I have one on my 6s plus and the only thing near the home area is the plastic that covers the bezels. What damage have your heard about?

That it leaves a mark around the home button.

Happened on my dad's iPhone 6 Plus. It's the area around the home button of the built-in screen protector where I've noticed some faint marks. Removed the built-in screen protector and installed a tempered glass screen protector. Home button is now exposed but the area around the earpiece is protected.

Wow. Is Otteebox aware of this?

Not sure if they've updated the case for the 6s/6s Plus.

The markings were caused by the way they decided to integrate the plastic membrane covering the home button and the built-in screen protector. It was basically a rectangular piece of plastic that was attached to the back of the built-in screen protector. The rectangular piece of plastic left a rectangular "scratch" around the area surrounding the home button after a few months of normal usage.

Thanks picked up the Tech 21 Patriot case and the case is awesome. I like it better the Defender. The only thing I don't like about the Patriot is the rear camera opening should be smaller.

That sucks, I have a tempered glass protector on mine luckily but I always felt the case seemed a little tight on the phone with the glass on.

The Patriot case is awesome. Don't know why it doesn't get enough recognition.

The problem is with any case that has the membrane over the home button. It seems to stick very well to the home button which is good and what you want but it also sticks to the glass around the home button and it takes part of the oleophobic coating away with it after awhile leaving what appears to be marks of sorts. No damage is done to the actual home button but the coated glass around it suffers. I had this issue with my lifeproof when I had a 6 and countless friends with a defender had the same issue.

Doesn't look like this can happen with the Patriot case, it's made different.

I got an Otterbox Defender along with a 6s Plus about two weeks ago. Don't see any marks on the phone. Looking at the case, it is not constructed like your older one. It's one smooth piece of plastic on the back with a round cutout for the button. There's a separate piece of plastic attached to the front of the screen with a "cupped" circular area in the middle that fits inside the hole for the button.

Again, this is a 6s Plus, not sure if the regular 6s case is different.

Maybe Otterbox decided to redesign the case for the 6s/6s Plus. Could you post some photos?

Sorry, I don't think a photo would really show up very well, it's all shiny clear plastic. But it is just a single piece of smooth plastic on the back. The raised area around the button is on the front. They have these in stock at Best Buy so you should be able to look at one in person.

A co worker has an Otterbox Defender and I asked him if it caused any damage around the home button. He said he didn't know cause he doesn't take his iPhone out often. I asked him if j could take his iPhone out so I can see and he said sure.

When I took out the iPhone I noticed that there was sort of an imprint around the home button. I got my micro fiber cloth and it wouldn't come off. I dampened the cloth a little with some solution I had and tried to wipe the imprint off. It wouldn't come off. I dampened the cloth more and it looked like it come off. Then I got a dry micro cloth and wiped and the imprint came back!
