So I recently bought the Otterbox Defender Pro for my iPhone 14 Pro Max after using the ItSkins Hybrid R/Drive. It has been several years since I have used an Otterbox case as I usually just find a cheap case and go with it for a while. However, I am traveling more for work and my kids are getting older and more rambunctious, which means my phone takes a tumble every once in a while. I figured I’d give my first impressions for those who have not used an Otterbox in a while.
Build Quality:
I remember using the Otterbox Defender on the iPhone 3GS , 4, 4S, etc. and the rubber component that surrounds the entire device and inner plastic shell would always stretch and become loose fitting. Gone are those days it seems. The rubber portion is phenomenal in my opinion. Very tight fitting and very comfortable to hold. Getting everything apart and then back together was a little difficult but nothing too bad. If anything, I know this thing is put together well and should be able to withstand drops that my device takes.
Ease of Use:
I know this is an important thing for many people, including myself. I do not like using cases that hinder my ability to do every day tasks with my device. Ultimately, this case allows perfect functionality of the iPhone. The volume rocker buttons are tactile and easy to use as is the lock button. The flap that covers the silent switch and the lightning port are snug in their respective areas but are not too difficult to open to access those areas.
I will also add that my tempered glass screen protector is perfectly aligned and not being impeded by the case edges.
Size:
This is going to be a pro and a con for some. Pro: the Otterbox Defender is much more slim than previous versions I have used. I remember before, it used to make the device a brick but now, it is much more sleek, form fitting, and nice to hold. Con: many are still going to be out of luck if their main goal is to keep the iPhone slim. This case does add bulk to the device but that is a given due to the purpose of the case.
Overall Impression:
T-Mobile was having a 40% sale and for $42, I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of the case. It is not a LifeProof Fre, UAG Monarch, etc. but it is a very nicely designed case that allows perfect functionality of the device without having to take any cumbersome steps to access things. At less than half the price of some other protective cases, I’m not sure you can beat the Otterbox Defender if you can get it at a discount.
If anyone has any questions about the case, I’d be more than happy to answer them.
NOTE: If folks would like pictures of the case on my phone, I can do that this evening when I get home and can use my wife’s phone to snap some shots.
