I just received my new apple watch series 8 stainless graphite in the mail from verizon. The watch would not turn out of the box on so I connected it to power source using the cable that came with the watch and reliable charging block. The apple watch was stuck on red low battery screen for almost 2 hours all while connected to power. I even tried using another charhing block and apple watch cable to rule out issues with the charging setup. The watch just turned on after nearly 2 full hours of charging and is signaling to pair with my phone but in Chinese characters. How alarming should this be? I am 99% sure I want to get a replacement no matter what because the issues were literally out of the box and Im also just disappointment because Ive waited for it to come. Looking for input, thank you

Edit: I also want to add that I am planning to buy applecare + and also have the verizon hardware protection, this makes me want to try the watch out at least and if it fails I will have a solid backup support.

Edit 2: Verizon now is demanding I pay a $50 restocking fee because it has turned on.

If you intend to keep then deal with Apple for issues, leave Verizon out of it. That said, I had the same with mine, took ages to charge, tbh the battery is degrading pretty fast now (from 96% health to 86% in 4 months ), so I'm not sure if deep discharge has something to do with this, people say it doesn't but I'm not sure.

If its working its working, just set it up take out AppleCare+ if that’s what you choose to do and then any problems in the future are covered.

Kick off the setup process from your phone and you shouldn’t need to worry initially what is displayed on the watch. (As far as I remember)
