I bought a 64 gig X in November of 2017 and have run out of room. I've continued to delete things while trying to hold out until fall. But now I'm thinking about buying another device. I usually by on AT&T Next (upgrade every year option), so I've been eligible for awhile.

I'm thinking about the XR. My daughter has one and I really like the increased screen size. She says the battery life is amazing. She's away at college and says it pretty much lasts all day no matter what she throws at it.

I like the fact a 128 gig it's $350 cheaper than an 256 XS..the only other option if I stayed in the XS family.

It seems like the biggest difference is losing an OLED screen. And while the X screren is fantastic, side by side their wasn't a huge difference. I can live with haptic instead of 3D touch (which I rarely use). The camera has always been more than fine for my use since the 5.

Anybody jump from the X to the XR and can share the experience good or bad?

Looks like you already made up your mind.

I would pick up a 256gb xr over the 128, it would give you more breathing room.

Are you going to trade in your iPhone X?

Definitely 256GB. If you already chewed through 64GB. I wouldn't expect 128GB to hold you for very long. The only appreciable difference between the XS and XR are the camera and screen. The XS getting a mild improvement to each. I wouldn't consider it a remarkable enough improvement to justify the increased cost.

Just upload your photos to icloud or google photos (Google is free) and hold off until September when they release the new iPhones. There isn't much of a jump from the X to Xr, and in some ways, its a downgrade. So yeah, I suggest waiting till the new ones come out, as the X is still an amazing phone.

I kinda feel bad for you as your main reason upgrading is out of storage. That’s one of the reason why I always buy the maxed out storage option whenever possible. Future proof.
But, I agree what Kangaroos says, hold off until September to see what option Apple would offer. Not sure about AT&T policy but it should allow you to upgrade to the new iPhone coming this September.

I used to have the X, now have the XS and just bought a XR (spare phone).

OP, just buy some iCloud storage, and upgrade to the replacement XS phone this fall.

Just want to add that you didn’t mention, that 3D Touch is something that also is an advantage to the XS, even though the XR has the ‘software version’ of 3D Touch, it definitely isn’t the same thing, and for those who truly appreciate The true functionality of 3D Touch, it’s nice to have.

I have an X and my girlfriend got a yellow XR. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Lower resolution, no double camera, LCD instead of OLED (it shows in a dark environment), ...
Not worth the marginal gain in screensize.

But that's my 2 cents ofc. ;-)

Don't understand how people use so much disk space. I'm only using 36 gigs.

If you can’t adjust your storage use for 6 months until new models come out then the XR is a good choice. I wouldn’t burn an upgrade this late in cycle. Trade in at Apple for the X is $500, if you hate to deal with selling yourself.

Whats so hard to understand? different people have different use cases.... Some people watch a lot of movies on their phones so have media downloaded on to their device.... Some people take a lot of pictures and videos which they don't trust to the cloud exclusively.... Some people have very extensive music collections which they want to keep on their phone..... There's a whole host of reasons why someone would use more storage than you, its quite simple.

When you factor in software updates, 4K video, gaming applications, ect, that really takes up a lot of space fairly quickly. Things have changed a lot today in terms of internal storage, and when you factor in media and video, it’s fairly intensive and how much one can consume space in a short amount of time. It’s Always a ‘safer bet’ to have more storage than less when you actually need it most.

I don't understand how people want to exaggerate that much when it comes to storage. I got several games on my phone (Vainglory: 2GB, Asphalt 9: 1,52GB, Skyrim Blades: 1.15, ...) have 5 offline iTunes movies, my latest 1000 pictures + favorite albums. Got Apple Music with loads of albums saved offline.

Only person who ever gave me a decent explanation why he needed the XS Max 512GB was because he's a professional filmmaker and he uses his iPhone to film loads and loads of 4K video.

All the rest are people exaggerating, who want more movies than they can watch, more pictures than they ever look at, etc, etc.

But in the end everyone does whatever they want of course, but I still can't understand why you'd want to waste money on more capacity in your iPhone that can buy you loads more in the form of an external disk. In Belgium you pay 110 EUR extra for an XR upgrade from 128GB to 256GB for example. That same cash can get you a 4TB portable hard drive.

Your post reminds me of a person on this forum who bought the 512GB XS Max for the sole reason that it was 'the most expensive one' while being totally oblivious that no one else would know this. Yes, there are people like this. :)
