Hello all,

what are the options for people who are out of warranty for their iPhone? People for whom 2 years are up and they still want to keep their old phone.

Do not like carriers protection plans as they are just too expensive.

Do people rely on Apple exchanging phones for $269 approx for out of warranty coverage?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Yes. Apple is $269 out of warranty (for 5S). If you don't want to pay it, sell for parts and buy something else, but it's likely that unless it's a really minor repair the $269 (for essentially a brand new phone (refurbished internals with a new shell)) is the best deal going.

Considering the majority of users upgrade every 2 years (some even every year) this is largely a non-issue, but if you must keep it past 2 years usually the replacement cost falls too (it's only 199 for a 4S now that it's not the "flagship" anymore).

Agree and I have done the same i.e. upgrade every couple of years. However a colleague has a 4S that is out of warranty and he wants to wait for the new iPhone 6 even thinking of waiting till 6S (just to ensure that 6 gets stable) and wanted to know the options till he upgrades.
