Just upgraded from the very first OG Core Duo 17" MBP to the new hotness 17" MBP. I am so happy :D

LOL, the screen puts the old one to shame. Glad you picked glossy as well(like myself). Glare's not as bad as people complain about, unless you're sitting outside with the sun right behind you.

Haha yeah thanks for the congratulations! I am 100% in love with the screen. So ridiculously bright, colors are great, glare is not that bad, and the resolution is breathtaking compared to my old MBP. SO much more room. My last MBP went through hell and back(Needed new hard drive, latch broke, DVD drive broke, isight broke, the keyboard panel of the case was separating from the rest of it, loose hinge, swelled dysfunctional battery, and the list just goes on... I'm glad I got apple care this time around)

Lovely photos and fascinating to see the contrast between the old and the new models. Great screen! Congratulations on your new MBP and may both you and your MBP live long together and prosper.

Cheers and good luck

Congratulations on the new MBP! I have an 06 MacBook, so I know about the glossy screen, and it's never been annoying enough to worry about - indoors or outdoors.

TBH, Matte Display + anywhere Outside = no go. Have yet to see one that is bright enough to be able to see anything when its daylight :p

It's not only the glare itself - the eyes get tired faster if you do typing/reading off a glossy screen. Matte is 'warmer' and 'softer'.

Wierd. I have the same old model and the screen difference wasn't as pronounced. I found it to be similar in brightness and clarity.

Of course, Apple just replaced the LCS last week and that might make a difference.
