Apple's Wallet app and Apple Pay service are experiencing an outage at this time, and the issue is preventing Mastercard card holders from being able to add their cards to Apple Pay.

The outage is reflected on Apple's System Status page, and it has apparently been ongoing for several hours. There do not appear to be many complaints about the issue on social media, so it is unclear how many Mastercard card holders are affected.

Mastercards that have already been added to Apple Pay and are available in the Wallet app should function as normal. We'll update this article when the issue has been addressed.

Update: Apple's status page indicates that the issue has been resolved as of 1:23 p.m. Pacific Time.

Update 2: The issue has resurfaced as of 2:10 p.m.

Update 3: Apple's status page once again says the issue has been resolved.

At first glance, I read the title as outrage preventing Mastercards from being added to Apple Pay. ?
Back to topic, I am suspecting the Apple Card is a little different from other MasterCard.
One of the local merchants take Apple Pay, but it errors out whenever I use Apple Card instead of other MasterCard in my wallet app.

Today I noticed a notice for one of my cards in ApplePay. It was a long policy related to how Apple shares data related to my ApplePay purchases. I did not realize how much personal information is shared with a merchant when you use ApplePay. Needless to say, I will no longer be using ApplePay. Merchants can have my card # and that's it!

It only shares it with Apple to pinpoint your location on a map. Which you can turn off.

One thing not shared: Your card #

It may be an issue for some, but I added a MasterCard to my wife's phone and watch just about an hour ago... so either it's not a universal issue, or it's been resolved.

I read that too, I was impressed by how little information is shared with a merchant. The bare minimum that they need. I was also impressed with how little information went to my card issuer, again just as much as they need to verify the transaction as genuine.

Looks like everything has been resolved now. Seems like outage did not last long.

Still going on. The Mac still has my old Apple Card number and although I've updated it on my iPhone its still causing an issue re: AppleCare+ monthly billing charges not going through. On both the iPhone and Mac its showing a white Mastercard card logo and not the Apple Card. I'm on the phone with Apple Support now because I don't want the AppleCare+ to lapse on my devices.
