I use the AT&T outgoing mobile server to send messages on my iPhone. I think it's cwmx.com. It takes FOREVER to send just plain text. I have a BellSouth (which is now part of AT&T) e-mail account, and the outgoing mail server that I use when on my home connection didn't work when I first got my iPhone.

Anybody have a clue about a solution? I figured I'd try here first becaust AT&T's help site is extremely clogged down with "how do I make my phone purple?" crap.

The solution is to use another server for your outbound mail.

The cwmx.com address is a carryover from the old Cingular Wireless days. Part of the MyCingular.net. Since you are connected to the AT&T 3G network you get to use the "free" server. If you want better service consider using something like Gmail, Yahoo or other mail system like MobileMe.

Your BellSouth.net email address, in this case only handles your inbox since the BellSouth.net server will not let you connect from any address outside of their network. This is to prevent SPAM
