Hi all,

When I try to send iCloud email on my Mac, I'm now prompted to enter my password. I enter the correct password and it tells me 'Unable to verify account name or password'. I can send emails with no problem from my iPhone and iPad and receiving mails is fine on my iMac also.

When I run Connection Doctor I see I connect fine to IMAP, but not to SMTP - 'Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct' - which I'm as certain as I can be, that they are. The usernames and passwords for IMAP and SMTP would be the same wouldn't they?

I did set up two-step verification recently, could this be related? Don't think I've sent any mail from the Mac since I set that up. That process seems to work fine though, I have my phone and iPad set up as trusted devices and when I want to log into iCloud.com for instance, I get the code on my phone with no issue.

I'm using standard iCloud mail and I can log in to everything else I can think of with my iCloud password so I'm certain that the account username and password are ok.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

EDIT : OK, all fixed. Didn't realise I had to create an app specific password, even though it says "Use an app-specific password when signing in to an app or service not provided by Apple." OSX Mail app and iCloud mail are Apple services!
