Outlook 2011 | Email Attachment Names

Microsoft Exchange Account.

If I attach a file to an email with a long name...

PACC168838_StPatricksDay_Banners_160x600.jpg

Something with in the Outlook system renames it to...

PACC168838_StPatrick#1E0B89.jpg.jpeg

The files open fine, but as you can imagine this is frustrating as the recipients of emails are receiving files with incorrect names. It doesn't matter the file format, swf, jpg, png, whatever. It matters the length of the filename. If I send an email through our web based email it does NOT rename the files, only happens when sending through Outlook 2011.

Please someone help me.

Somewhere along the way, a server has a limit on the number of characters allowed in a filename. What you are describing is a long-standing technique to work around the limit. I am not able to replicate your experience with my setup. By this, I mean that each of the options for encoding the attachment file name preserves the 50-odd character filename of my test file.
