Outlook 2011 Gmail Calendar and Contacts

Does anyone know if/when I will be able to connect Outlook 2011 to Gmail via Exchange just like on my iPhone? I have gotten used to just updating from one device and having it replicate to the rest. Why can the iPhone connect and sync with Gmail via Exchange and not Outlook 2011?
