Outlook Calendar - items appear and disappear

My contacts between Outlook and iPhone 3G sync without an issue.

With Outlook calendar, items originating from the iPhone appear in Outlook, and then when I close and reopen Outlook, those iPhone calendar items are no longer in Outlook. There is no issue with items that originate in Outlook - the migrate to the iPhone without a problem.

Any ideas?
