Outlook for Mac search acting strange

Today, I have noticed that searching for emails by sender or subject within Outlook isn't working. It works on my iphone and via webmail so it's definitely an Outlook issue. What should I try to troubleshoot?
 
Well, I spoke to soon...I had approx 4400 emails in my inbox and I am sitting her watching the email count drop...what would cause that?
