Overclock an iMac G4

To start out, I'm going to "read everything before doing anything" as this is my only computer...

I hope you will do the same before giving me information.

My specs: iMac G4/800 w/ Superdrive and 60 GB HD + 512 RAM and 15" Flat Panel (The original 2002 top-of-the-line)

I am interested in overclocking this computer. It is out of warranty, however, I can not open it up.

Through software, is there any way to overclock this computer's processor?

How do I do it? How safe is it? How fast should I make it?

Please provide me with this information when you can as I'm interested if it's safe and wise. Thanks a lot!

i don't think there's any software based way to do it.

there may be some jumpers you can switch on the motherboard. but that will require you to open up the machine. if you do, make sure to invest in some thermal paste as iMac uses one to keep the heat moving, i think... which would become even more important when you make the processor go faster -> more heat.

i don't think it's worth it, but it's your computer...

for the risk you take, i think it would be cheaper to invest in a 1 GB RAM instead to improve performance?

Through software, maybe not.

But overclocking an iMac/iBook/PowerBook generally isn't the best idea -- since you cannot add bigger heatsinks, fans, etc. to counterack the games with the clock -- you sort of have to hope the current cooling will work.

if u do overclock, I wouldnt overclock very much... maybe to 850mhz would work with the current fans/heatsinks.

the iMac is a hotbox when its not overclocked, so its not recommended to do so.
