Hello,
As I am pretty new to this world of overclocking tweaking etc the chances that something goes wrong are pretty high, and ofcourse that's what happened. Now what I did was:
- I read the thread by Jelle Mees about overclocking did everything exactly like he did
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1166837/
- Overclocked the Amd Radeon HD 5850m to 725/1025 Mhz (default @ 628/1000 Mhz)
- Via Smc Fancontrol I upped the fanspeeds to
ODD 1700 rpm
CPU 1600 rpm
HDD 2500 rpm
(also two questions here:
Does the GPU have its own fan?
If not where is the GPU located near which fan (ODD HDD CPU)?)
- I removed Apple's bootcamp drivers and installed Amd Catalyst 12.1
when I press update to 12.4(as I'm aware of latest version?) it does the download etc yet after a reboot it's version stays 12.1
-Now I've done some stress tests etc and when I'm playing games my screen turns either black or it makes a beautiful Picasso resemblance of the frozen game image. The temperatures are at max 80-90°C that's pretty dangerous I believe. Also it doesn't matter which game I play it happens to all( I've tested Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Bioshock, COD and yes even Minecraft. I also should mention that when My game freezes after a while my screen starts flickering white images black images etc pretty scary if you ask me
What went wrong over here?
I've read that some people clocked their GPU at 740/1075 Mhz and they have temps about 60°C max.
Is it a driver issue?
Or do I have to up the fanspeeds via Smc Fancontrol even more?
Also is there a easy-to-learn alternative for Smc fancontrol?
Don't mention fanspeed it doesn't recognize my hardware
For those who are able to answer many many thanks
