Hi,

Ok I'm a bit baffled as to what the problem is with my macbook pro....

Model Number: A1260 (early 2008), 2 gig ram, 200GB HD (5400rpm), 15" model.

Recently it has been getting VERY hot, running slow, fans on pretty much all the time unless you are just running nothing. I have done the following...

- Formatted the HD
- Opened the laptop up and cleaned it out
- Reset PRAM
- Reset power function thingy
- Apple hardware test showed up nothing

I am quite baffled to what the problem is. The only thing noticable wrong with the laptop is the fact the LED on the magsafe connector no longer works (well does sometimes, is a bit temperamental). However even when not plugged in, it does the same thing.

After reformatting the laptop, it runs a little bit better. Firefox used to take a minute or so to close but it's instant again now after the reformat.

Anyone have any ideas? I fear it is coming to the end of it's life. I don't really think it has lasted long, neither did my old powerbook G4. Starting to lose faith in Apple laptops.

Any help much appreciated :)

Seems like you have a clogged up exhaust vent. Try taking a can of compressed air and blowing it around where the hinge of your display is. If this isn't the problem and it isn't software related, it could easily be dirty fans, or even the notorious thermal paste problem.

I'd reset the SMC first and foremost, before doing something as drastic as thermal paste replacement.
