What I thought would be a quick answer is becoming nearly impossible to find. No Google/MRoogle search has led me to the answer of the following question: Is there an overtype or Windows Insert key function equivalent for Leopard? All information found so far discusses running Boot Camp or Parallels. I'm working in Pages and want to know of an overtype function that I can turn on/off?

And in case anyone is wondering what that means, I want to be able to type and delete characters in front of the cursor at the same time- useful for retyping text that was originally in caps and vice versa.

This feature is not implemented in Pages. It is apparently in Word, but that's it. Easy way is to highlight the text, then type. You can use shift plus an arrow key. Adding either the opt/alt or command key makes the selection jump a word or row, respectively. So if you need to retype 3 words, it's opt+shift and tap the direction arrow 3x. Almost as fast as hitting the insert key.
