Hi,
I have the dual bay external HD that I bought off OWC 3 years ago fitted with 2 x 500 GB HD (External 1 with HD A and HD B). 1 year ago, I bought the exact same external enclosure and fitted with another 2 x 500 GB HD (External 2 with HD C and HD D).
A few days ago, the external 1 would switch on but it seems like it was having a hard time spinning up and there is like a clicking sound coming from both HD. After a few tries of On/Off, both HDs in external 1 were able to mount. However, today, both HD would not be able to mount and the clicking sound continues. At first, I thought it was the enclosure, so I replaced HD A and HD B in External 1 with External 2. Result was the same.
Then, I thought that HD A and HD B might be both be goner. So I tried to switch the HDs around. I paired HD A and HD C in External 1 and so on. All HDs were able to mount no problem and there are no clicking sound at all. I switched them around again a few times and all HDs were working fine if their partner were switched.
So I tried to place HD A in External 1 and HD B in External 2, again, the problem persist, no mounting and clicking noise. This is what confuses me, if the HDs were paired differently, they mount properly otherwise, its a problem. Is this showing that HD A and HD B are failing on me? Has anybody had the same thing happen to them?
Sorry for the long post, and bad grammar.
Thank you in advance.
